134 Hepatitis C Micro-Elimination Strategies in Correctional Settings: Improving Screening, Treatment Access, and Continuity of Care
Description

Hepatitis C remains highly prevalent in correctional settings, where many individuals go undiagnosed or untreated due to inconsistent screening, operational barriers, short stays, and reentry gaps. This session provides practical strategies for HCV micro-elimination in jails and prisons, including streamlined opt-out screening, simplified treatment pathways, and approaches tailored for short-stay populations. Participants will also learn standardized reentry coordination methods to maintain treatment continuity. Using adaptable workflows and implementation tools, the session supports progress toward HCV elimination while improving clinical efficiency and public health impact.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the epidemiology of HCV in correctional settings and the rationale for micro-elimination strategies.
  • Apply evidence-based approaches to HCV screening, diagnosis, and treatment initiation in jails and prisons, including in short-stay facilities.
  • Implement care coordination and reentry planning models that improve continuity of HCV treatment after release.
