Ms. Danielle Frane serves as the special sheriff and superintendent of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) in Bourne, Massachusetts, providing leadership since July 2024. Prior to joining the BCSO, she completed 27 years at the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office in Dedham, Massachusetts, last serving as the first female jail superintendent in the agency’s history. Currently, she is a commissioner for the American Jail Association’s Jail Manager Certification Commission as well as a member of the legislative affairs committee. Ms. Frane is a certified jail manager, certified corrections executive, and certified correctional health professional. She is a graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute of Policing session 87, and a recipient of the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Leadership Award. She holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Columbia Southern University and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Fisher College. Ms. Frane is an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts’ Boston campus for a variety of contemporary criminal justice related classes. Recently, she was selected to be a technical assistance coach for the Jails and Justice Support Center. She has presented at multiple national conferences in the areas of PREA, objective classification, innovative programming, behavior modification plans, and reentry.
