Dr. Chethan Bachireddy, MD, MSc, FACP, AAHIVS is the chief health officer at Harris Health System, the third largest public safety-net health care system in the country. Harris Health System consists of 37 clinical care sites, is responsible for caring for the underserved in Harris County, Texas, and oversees health care within the Harris County Jail. He is board certified in internal medicine and addiction medicine and is a certified HIV specialist. Dr. Bachireddy is a clinical associate professor in the Department of Health and Population Health Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine, a clinical associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, and an adjunct senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his current role, Dr. Bachireddy served as the chief medical officer and chief clinical innovation officer at Virginia Medicaid where he was responsible for the health and wellbeing of over 2 million low-income Virginians. He partnered with the Virginia Department of Corrections and Philadelphia Department of Prisons to implement evidence-based medications for opioid use disorder. He has authored multiple studies on epidemiology and clinical care for individuals with a history of substance use disorder, HIV, and incarceration.
