Dr. David M. Mathis, MD, has been board-certified in family medicine for over 30 years. He has spent 25 years in correctional medicine, most recently as a physician and surgeon at the California Medical Facility, a state prison for inmates with medium- to high-acuity medical issues. Designated a certified correctional health care professional - physician, he has also achieved certification in hospice and palliative care medicine. Dr. Mathis spent 4 years as medical director of Eastern Correctional Institution, which is Maryland's largest prison with 3,500 inmates. During his time in private practice, he taught medical students from George Washington University School of Medicine and the University of Virginia Medical School as an associate professor of health care sciences. Dr. Mathis is an experienced expert witness in correctional health care and family medicine, providing consultation and testimony to law firms.
