Dr. Erin Topalian is the Director of Mental Health and a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner for Mediko at Norfolk City Jail in Norfolk, Virginia. In this role, she leads the jail’s mental health and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) programs, including the implementation of both oral and long-acting buprenorphine to improve patient outcomes and reduce diversion. Originally from Rhode Island, Dr. Topalian brings extensive behavioral health and correctional health leadership experience to her current position. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Post-Master’s Certificate in Nursing Education from Old Dominion University and her Master’s degree in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Shenandoah University. Dr. Topalian is board-certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner by ANCC and licensed in Virginia and Florida.
