416 Treating Complex PTSD: A Psychiatric Perspective*(1)
Description
Complex post-traumatic stress disorder is characterized by a history of repeated traumatic events. Symptoms of C-PTSD and borderline personality disorder often overlap, and risk of suicide among these patients is high. Despite high prevalence of this disorder in correctional settings, there is a dearth of research on how to treat it. This talk will focus on psychiatric and mental health treatment, as well as emerging developments on the topic.

• Compare the symptomologies of complex posttraumatic stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder
• Recognize three risk factors for developing C-PTSD
• Describe evidence-based psychiatric treatment for C-PTSD
