320 Women and Addiction: Gender-Specific Care Models
Description
Women with substance use disorders are experiencing devastating trends in morbidity and mortality. The presenter will discuss the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections' successful approach to reconceptualizing SUD treatment for the female population, which is tailored to an integrated chronic disease model of addiction treatment, prioritizes recovery-oriented treatment approaches, and focuses specifically on the physical and mental health needs of women.
Educational Objectives:
- Examine offending pathways in relation to the female population
- List the components needed to support implementation of a gender-specific SUD program for women
- Discuss the challenges of implementing a prison-to-community MAT program
