Ms. Shelley Edgerton is a licensed professional counselor and is the director of Louisiana Department of Corrections opioid/medication-assisted treatment substance treatment programs. She began working for the Department of Corrections in 2007 and had previously served as the program director on a 2nd Chance Act Grant on co-occurring disorders, called the New Beginnings Program. In 2017 this program received the Innovations in Corrections Award from the American Correctional Association for outstanding and breakthrough treatment toward offenders and their reentry efforts. Ms. Edgerton holds two bachelor's degrees from Louisiana State University in political science and psychology and received a master's degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She then continued her counseling concentration at Liberty University and is currently a doctoral student working on her PhD in forensic psychology.
