Name
Plenary Session: HIV and Substance Use Disorders
Description

Substance use disorders are prevalent among people with HIV and contribute to poor health outcomes. Substance use may increase the likelihood of risk-taking behaviors, the potential for drug drug interactions, and the risk or severity of substance-associated toxicities. This session will cover the myriad issues a provider should know about best practices for treatment while in corrections and after release, especially taking into account continuity of care after reentry.

Educational Objectives
• Summarize screening for substance use disorders in persons with HIV
• Discuss how substance use disorders contribute to barriers to care for HIV
• Describe pharmacologic treatments to address substance use disorders and the effects on HIV care

Educational session made possible by a medical education grant from Janssen Therapeutics.
