325 Altered Mental Status: Differentiating Between Medical and Mental Health Emergencies
Description
As altered mental status becomes more prevalent in corrections, inclusive training for nursing and custody staff is crucial. The presenters will discuss the sequelae of the disease and differentiate between a medical versus mental health diagnosis. They will also discuss whether the patient requires emergency medical attention or mental health interventions, the importance of early intervention, and the results of a late or missed diagnosis. A review of case studies and current guidelines will also be presented.
