The decrease in available beds in mental hospitals has caused an increase in incarceration rates of individuals who would have otherwise received care in appropriate settings. This roundtable will cover the unique challenges correctional centers face as they increasingly become quasi-mental health hospitals, the stigmatization and criminalization of mentally ill individuals, and the importance of working collaboratively with courts, criminal justice systems, and community behavioral health using the Sequential Intercept Model.
