Name
312 Postrelease Outcomes in Individuals Treated with Extended-Release vs. Sublingual Buprenorphine
Description

Evaluation of a one-year pilot utilizing extended-release buprenorphine (XRB) for the treatment of opioid use disorder in a rural jail found that, when compared to those receiving sublingual buprenorphine, persons receiving XRB were almost three times as likely to receive timely community OUD treatment postrelease. Learn how utilization of XRB allowed for expanded access to OUD treatment, was well tolerated, and reduced medication diversion.

Educational Objectives

  • Describe how to implement an extended-release buprenorphine (XRB) program for the treatment of OUD
  • Review best practices for pre-release planning and community collaboration to ensure ongoing access to OUD treatment post-release.
  • Discuss strategies to obtain financial support for OUD programs including state agencies, use of state/county opioid settlement funds, and Medicaid coverage using the 1115 waiver.
