332 Hidden Wounds: TBI in Justice-Involved Women
Description

Women in the justice system face a hidden crisis of traumatic brain injury, often linked to domestic violence and trauma. Undiagnosed TBIs contribute to behavioral health issues and recidivism. This session highlights the need for screening and introduces brain-based, gender-responsive interventions, such as neurorehabilitation, oculomotor and vestibular therapy, and trauma-informed care that improve cognitive functioning and emotional regulation. Early diagnosis and tailored treatment are key to recovery and reducing recidivism.

  • Analyze the prevalence and impact of TBI on mental illness in justice-involved women
  • Evaluate brain-based TBI diagnostic screening tools, rehabilitation strategies, and treatments to improve behavioral outcomes
