Dr. Jarrod M. Wall is a formerly incarcerated scholar whose work focuses on higher education in prison and post-carceral mental health. He earned a PhD in sociology through the interdisciplinary City, Culture, Community program at Tulane University in May 2026. His doctoral research examined college affordability in prison, focusing on the often-overlooked costs of incarceration and how the need to earn income while incarcerated can create hardship, affect enrollment and retention, and increase participation in “survival labor.” Dr. Wall has conducted participatory action research in three prisons and collaborates with peer-support groups focused on mental health and reentry among formerly incarcerated individuals.
