Dr. Michelle Daniel Jones earned her doctorate in American Studies from New York University. Her scholarship focuses on the creative liberation strategies of incarcerated people and the intersection of incarceration, education, housing, and social justice. As an organizer, collaborator, and subject matter expert, she contributes to initiatives aimed at reducing harm and ending mass incarceration. Dr. Jones serves as a senior research consultant with the Second Chance Educational Alliance and as a co-researcher with the Women Transcending Oral History Project. She is director of archives for the Correctional Association of New York and part-time executive director of Constructing Our Future, a housing organization created by incarcerated women in Indiana. She is the author and co-editor of the award-winning book Who Would Believe a Prisoner: Indiana Women’s Carceral Institutions, 1848–1920 and is also an artist whose work spans theater, photography, and public installations.
