Description

Numerous factors contribute to disparities in mental health diagnosis and treatment for racial and ethnic minorities. The speaker will describe the stages of screening, diagnosis, referral, and posttreatment, highlighting complexities that contribute to these disparities, including language barriers, varied cultural understandings of mental health, stigma, inaccessibility to care, socioeconomic disadvantages, clinician bias, difficulties in accurate screening and referral. Recommendations for mitigating concerns in correctional health care settings will be shared.
