Overprescribing and misprescribing of antibiotics has led to an alarming and dangerous rise in infections caused by antibiotic-resistant organisms, for which effective treatments are difficult, more toxic, expensive, and sometimes nonexistent. This presentation addresses the proper prescribing of antibiotics for odontogenic infections and for antibiotic prophylaxis based on the latest American Dental Association clinical practice guidelines.
