485 A Strategic Model for Managing Outbreaks in Congregate Settings*
Description

In this session, participants will learn about a recently published model designed to guide outbreak response in congregate settings such as prisons and jails. This model will be contrasted with the CDC outbreak investigation steps. We will review examples of outbreaks that participants have experienced, e.g., norovirus, influenza, scabies, botulism, etc., in light of the 10 tasks involved in outbreak response and discuss how the model might be applied in their settings.

  • Compare and contrast the model to guide outbreak response in congregate settings with the CDC field investigation steps
  • Describe the three phases and 10 steps involved in the outbreak response model
  • Apply the model to guide response to outbreaks experienced in the correctional setting
