480 Improving Safety for Incarcerated Transgender Women*
Description

As the political situation worsens for incarcerated transgender women and transgender individuals generally, new models to safely house and care for them are needed. Transgender women are at imminent risk for physical and sexual violence in correctional settings, and corrections has encountered difficulties in meeting their basic needs. While corrections principles focus on being firm, fair, and consistent, flexibility and equity frameworks are needed. This workshop will address various models and systemic issues for housing and caring for transgender women.
