435 Dental Treatment of the Medically Complex Patient
Description

Patients within the correctional system often present with poor medical and dental health. This program will highlight how medical issues that are common among correctional dental patients can impact oral health and the provision of dental care. The speaker will describe how some medications used to treat chronic illnesses can have adverse effects on oral health and how they can have adverse drug interactions with medications used for dental treatment.

  • List the most common medications used to treat chronic illnesses that have direct and/or indirect effects on oral health
  • Describe how chronic illnesses and the medications used in their treatment can impact dental care
