219 Professional Identity in Correctional Nursing: Why It Matters
Description
This research synthesis maps the existing literature on professional identity in correctional nursing to identify key concepts, research gaps, and types of evidence for a specialty that seeks to rebuild its workforce. This mapping exercise noted strong professional identity among nurses who work with detained/incarcerated patients. Knowledge of the internalized norms, or those things that make these specialty nurses "feel like a nurse" is critical for development of effective recruitment and retention strategies for correctional systems.
