Sgt. Samantha Avila has served with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office for 10 years, with previous assignments in detention and corrections, internal affairs, the Coroner's Bureau, and court services. Much of her career has focused on the jail's clinic unit, where she supported medical care and security operations before being promoted to sergeant. As sergeant of security, she supervised housing unit operations, staffing, and emergency response. In her current role as sergeant of the medical unit, Sgt. Avila serves as liaison between the Sheriff's Office and the contracted medical provider, oversees the jail's clinic and outpatient housing unit, and works closely with the facility's quality team to align custody operations with quality improvement goals.
