Leadership skills are part of the basic curriculum for advanced practice registered nurses. Correctional advanced practice registered nurses have a unique opportunity to use those skills to enhance the care and treatment of their patients, as well as the nursing practice of their colleagues at all levels of licensure. We will review these leadership skills and their application in the correctional setting, and will discuss strategies to improve those skills.
