P04 Understanding Psychopathy: From Clinical Lore to Evidence-Based Outcomes*
Description

Psychopathic individuals are overrepresented in corrections at a rate 15 to 25 times higher than the general population and are more likely to engage in disruptive behavior. While clinical lore posits that they are “untreatable,” potentially successful interventions focus on treating interfering characteristics and behavioral manifestations. The session will include the clinical and behavioral traits of psychopathy, recent advances of the biopsychosocial model for understanding psychopathy, treatment issues, and new novel interventions. 3.5 CE credits
