124 How Everyday Interactions Can Shape an Adolescent’s Future*
Description
Key messages at critical moments can inspire adolescents and discouraging messages can profoundly affect them. Studies have demonstrated that adolescents in juvenile detention centers are 30% to 65% more likely to have been exposed to childhood trauma than the average adolescent and four times as likely to have experienced four or more traumatic events. In this session, we will discuss how to talk to teens in a way that can help them build a positive identity by using trauma-responsive language and motivational interviewing techniques.
