Description

This talk will define solitary confinement and discuss the history of isolation and solitary confinement as both a means of punishment and an action to alleviate staffing shortages. The health effects of confinement will be a primary focus, with consideration of adolescent developmental stages. Discussion will include state law status for the prohibition of solitary confinement and how health care professionals can and should intervene.
