This discussion will address the history, structure, and outcomes of postgraduate nurse practitioner residency programs in providing new NPs with a depth and intensity of training to the role of primary care provider in safety net settings such as community health centers. It also will look at the recent experience of the country's first formal postgraduate NP residency program in a correctional health facility.
