Dr. Ann Avery graduated from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed Internal Medicine Residency at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. After a brief time practicing in Arizona, she moved to Miami, FL where she completed her infectious disease fellowship training at the University of Miami/ Jackson Medical Center in 2003. She returned to Cleveland in 2004 to rejoin MetroHealth where she is a Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and the Director for the Division of Infectious Diseases at MetroHealth. She focuses on improving the lives of patients with or at risk for infectious diseases utilizing a multidisciplinary approach of biomedical, social and structural interventions. She has been the principal investigator for three Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) HIV/AIDS Bureau funded Special Projects of National Significance initiatives including the Jail Linkages Project. Following the Jails Linkage, she continues to work with the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center overseeing a robust HIV and HCV testing program and providing HIV care. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Gold Humanism Award, the Gender Equity Award as well as being named to the NE Ohio Top Doctors List for the last several years.
