140 Youth Reentry: Medicaid, CHIP, and Mental Health*
Description

This session will focus on Medicaid and CHIP eligibility for youth adjudicated to the juvenile justice system. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 resulted in policy changes to procedural health coverage components, protecting some rights for youth to continue coverage during incarceration. Topics also include the importance of mental health treatment before and after incarceration and the role parole plays in helping youth transition back into the community.

  • Describe the process for ensuring Medicaid enrollment before and after release
  • Examine what the new Medicaid eligibility rules mean for incarcerated youth
