The concept of Shared Professional Governance was derived from conceptual framework models aimed at improving nursing work environments, satisfaction, and retention. SPG is considered the gold standard for achieving ANCC Pathway to Excellence and Magnet designations. But is SPG a viable option in correctional settings? This presentation explores the key elements of SPG, examines how one of the largest single-site jails in the U.S. is implementing this nursing practice model, and delves into the unique challenges nurses face in taking ownership of heir practice within correctional settings.
