Description
Individuals diagnosed with the neurocognitive disorder commonly known as dementia are increasingly prevalent in the carceral setting. This presentation will highlight both psychiatric and behavioral health understandings and interventions associated with this diagnosis. Clinical features, brain functioning, and medication effectiveness will be examined, followed by a review of the screening and assessment of dementia, common manifestations particular to the carceral setting, program modifications, staff and peer training, and discharge considerations.
