Ms. Sarah Reckess is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. She serves as an ethics consultant for Upstate University Hospital and its affiliate inpatient and outpatient programs. She is the co-director of the Syracuse Medical-Legal Partnership which provides student attorneys in the outpatient pediatric clinics to address legal issues impacting child health outcomes. An attorney licensed to practice in New York State and before the U.S. Supreme Court, Ms. Reckess worked in justice system reform for 13 years prior to moving into the world of bioethics. Her research interests include advanced care planning for incarcerated patients, adolescent decision making, and medical-legal partnerships.
