315 The Forgotten #MeToo Survivors: Incarcerated Women
Description

Despite calls for criminal justice reform, the prison population is dramatically increasing, including women and people of color. According to a recent study, 86% of women in jail report that they had been sexually assaulted at some point in their lifetime. Participants will explore the challenges and stigma of providing services for survivors within a prison and learn about the creation and implementation of a psychotherapy group addressing sexual trauma in New Jersey's women's prison.

  • Discuss systemic racism, sexism, and mass incarceration of vulnerable minority populations
  • Analyze lack of trauma-informed care and barriers for treatment within corrections
  • Evaluate the efficacy of an original group curriculum addressing trauma-related symptoms in prison
