316 Analyzing and Understanding Deliberate Self-Harm
Description
Thirteen months of data from a large western state prison system will be reviewed to examine the functional reasons behind deliberate self-harm in correctional settings. DSH events were categorized into five primary motivations, including mood regulation, instrumental behavior, and suicidal ideation. Additional data, such as timing, method, demographics, and recurrence, will be discussed to enhance understanding of patterns and inform targeted interventions for individuals engaging in DSH while incarcerated.
