Research shows that psychologically preparing the patient prior to a surgical-medical procedure not only contributes to the patient's confidence, but also speeds recovery and reduces the need for postoperative pharmacological treatment. This qualitative study examines relevant literature, with the goal of improving surgical outcomes for incarcerated patients, especially those with cancer.
