444b Collaborating to Improve Health Outcomes in Reentry for Older Adults*
Description

This talk explores how incorporating occupational therapy and physical therapy into correctional health care can address the unique needs of incarcerated older adults. By establishing collaborative partnerships and providing specialized training for correctional staff, these therapies aim to help lower recidivism and improve postincarceration outcomes. A university-correctional partnership launched a specialized unit in 2023, offering geriatric-focused rehabilitation. This innovative model enhances health and community reentry, while offering professional graduate students valuable learning experiences.
