We asked what past attendees learned from attending past conferences and what they'd do differently. Here's what they said:
- Stronger implementation of therapeutic techniques
- Pay more attention to legal issues impacting the provision of correctional health care
- Use some of the strategies recommended for staffing
- Have more confidence with articulating the benefits of providing MAT services
- Educate colleagues about what I learned. Change practices. Document with more detail.
- Use better methods to approach our population. Understand basic differences related to age, social bias, and socioeconomic values. Encourage all members of the medical team to be on the same page.
- Know and put into place NCCHC standards and policies
- Be more mindful of my own triggers when interacting with the incarcerated
- Be more able to assess suicide risk in our jail
- Take opiate withdrawal patients more seriously
- Further deepen my understanding of hot button issues/topics in correctional health care (which will allow me to more effectively recruit professionals into this great field).
- Look into leading groups in conjunction with mental health , particularly patient education
- Better documentation, better communication, better practice
